The General Director of the Uzbekistan Professional Football League (UzPFL) Diyor Imamkhodjaev and the General Secretary of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Ulugbek Karimov held a meeting prior to the final match of the AFC Asian Cup U20.
On March 18, CAFA General Secretary visited UzPFL’s office and parties discussed opportunities of organizing competitions in cooperation. The idea of having club’s competition in the region was brought to the meeting. CAFA has expressed its willingness to support this idea.
As the initiator of the League Cup, the Uzbekistan Professional Football League will soon present its proposal to the leagues of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Initial plan is to organize international friendly matches with the participation of clubs this year, and it will gradually turn into an official competition of the Central Asian region.
We believe that 2023 will go down in history as a new stage of cooperation between CAFA Member Associations and Central Asian football leagues.
